How Star Wars changed the world
Submitted by Robbie on December 11, 2008 - 9:27am.Star Wars has been a bonding experience for my son and myself for many years (like geeky father, like geeky son I guess). While the movies certainly compete for attention with the myriad of others out there (not like when I was a kid -- there was ONLY Star Wars), few can provide such a wonderful opportunity to discuss how the imagination of one man has truly helped shaped the world--and the future--like Star Wars.
Family Night showing of "Edward Scissorhands" Saturday, Dec. 13
Submitted by wendy on December 10, 2008 - 3:39pm.Devil's Night is back with an Angel City Drive special Family Night screening of 1990 Burton classic "Edward Scissorhands" this Saturday, December 13th. Treat your kids to this strange and beautiful story of a fish out of water thrust into the middle of suburban hell. Laugh, cry, fall in love with Johnny Depp all over again on a 24ft by 18ft screen in the perfect outdoor movie venue atop a downtown LA parking structure.
Two Thursdays of outdoor family movie fun @ The Grove's Movies in the Park
Submitted by wendy on October 21, 2008 - 12:26pm.The Grove in Los Angeles understands that outdoor movies aren't just for summer. Something I always wondered about being a native Southern California girl myself. I mean, really, fall comes with it's gorgeous weather and early sunsets. What a great opportunity to go see an outdoor movie and not have to wait until 8 or 9pm for it to start. And perhaps your kids will actually get to watch the movie for once.
"Pee Wee's Big Adventure"screening September 13 @ Hollywood Forever Cemetery
Submitted by wendy on September 12, 2008 - 7:27am.I've always thought Cinespia's Cemetery Screenings would be a great "date night" thing to do with my better half. It's just the right mix of movies, music, food, alcohol, uber-cools, energy and morbidness. Ideal for us p-units who spend most Saturday nights curled up on the couch with two kids between us watching "The Never Ending Story" for the tenth Saturday in a row. Don't get me wrong, I love the movie. Heck, I introduced the movie to my kids.
GeekDad: "10 Geeky Movies to Raise Your Kids on" and I couldn't agree more.
Submitted by wendy on September 3, 2008 - 9:30pm.What's not to love about Wired's "10 Geeky Movies to Raise Your Kids on"? It's one of those childhood memory inducing/"Oh yeah, I forgot about that one"/we desperately need a quality movie for our Family Movie Night type of lists. Or what I like to call a good "free movies in the park" list. And the geek in me is loving the shout out at #4 of "My Neighbor Totoro" and all thing Miyazaki.
